The season finale is here and fans worldwide can’t get enough of the thrill, suspense and drama in the movie series, THE GAME OF THRONES. While the excitement rages on, we’ve decided to look at the whole series from another angle with more familiar characters.
Strange? well, our characters are non-other than our very own politicians themselves. You will agree with me that we can make loads of episodes from the political drama in the country, an example is the tussle for power in the National Assembly. Right now sit back, relax and enjoy your time on this piece as we’ve put together a good comparison of Nigerian politicians and characters in Game of Thrones.
Hmmm, this one is tricky. The situation is a mixture of both love and hate. Oby has been in the pool of controversy lately just like Melisandre and they have been met with mixed reactions from Nigerians. Just take a look at the whole #BringBackOurGirls Campaign, the rest is history.
Ned Stark/Umar Yar’ adua
You already know the story, a lot to do in so little time as their early deaths caused their short play in their respective roles. A lot depended on both of them to save their world. RIP to both of them, Oh sorry, the late president Umar Musa Yar’ adua
Tywin Lannister/ Wike Nyesom
Talk about ownership and a firm grasp on power. Nyesom Wike is just like Tywin Lannister as they both own their state/kingdom. Rotimi Amaechi was installed as Governor of Rivers State and expelled by Nyesom Wike himself. Today Wike is the major reason PDP is back on the tussle for power.
Cersei Lannister/ Patience Jonathan
Former First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan will always be remembered for a lot of things especially her ‘impeccable’ use of English language. Just like Cersei Lannister, Nigerians have not had any other queen to fill the gap of Patience Jonathan. She remains undisputedly the toughest first Lady Nigeria has ever produced. You can argue in the comment section.
Jon Snow/ Yemi Osinbajo
If there’s one thing they have in common, it’s the fact that they have both had near-death experiences in their quest to unite everyone. Jon snow started out as being ignored just like our vice president. What do you think?
Theon Greyjoy/Dino Melaye
The king of drama himself and the one and only politician to earn himself a title unanimously among Nigerians, Senator Dino Melaye. Oh yes, we can’t get enough of him and just like Theon Greyjoy, he is a popular loud mouth that is always been ‘persecuted ‘ by the Nigerian police. Both are starting out as egoistic and proud show-off but as the story unfolds, they are being humbled.
Grand Maester Pycelle/ Lai Mohammed
Putting aside the controversial statements he makes all the time that aggravates Nigerians. Lai Mohammed will remain one of the most loyal ministers in Nigeria’s history. Like rubber, you can bend him in any direction and he is sure to conform. Their loyalties have made them villains but they don’t really bother much about it.
Lord Petyr Baelish/Bola Tinubu
Jagaban himself, or should I say, Lord of the Schemes, former Governor of Lagos, Chief Bola Tinubu fits the character of Lord Baelish known as “littlefinger”. He is known to be in the background influencing political matters that shape the country. Tinubu has been without a position since 2007, yet he has pulled strings almost everywhere.
Jaime Lannister/ Bukola Saraki
Right now, there isn’t much to say. You already know he is the King of the Moves, shaking taking tables like never before. His name is the honourable, Senator Bukola Saraki himself. though he is yet to slay a king, he has been the main disturbance of the current president since their entry since 2015. Jaime’s character has been a shadow of his very powerful father, Tywin. Exactly like Bukola Saraki whose father (Olushola Saraki) literally owned Kwara state when he was alive.
Do you think these politicians fit these characters in GOT or you have a better version. Let us know in the comment section below and don’t forget to share.
