Big Brother Naija star Angel Smith has broken her silence following backlash over a now-viral video that showed her in a cosy embrace with British-Nigerian rapper Darkoo (Oluwafisayo Isa).
The video, which Angel posted herself, sparked widespread speculation on social media, with many questioning her sexuality and suggesting she might be a lesbian.
However, the 24-year-old reality TV star and writer had a clear message for critics: being called a lesbian isn’t an insult.
Angel: “It’s not the gag you think it is”
Taking to Snapchat, Angel addressed the controversy head-on:
“Calling me a lesbian is not the gag you think it is, nor is it an insult. Bad news: my fine ass.”
She continued by slamming the hypocrisy of online trolls who ignore more pressing societal issues:
“You people did not come upon some secret thing. I posted it myself… this is my life, and I’m an adult. I can do whatever I like.”
Angel also took a philosophical jab at critics:
“We will die one day, and your opinions will be nothing more than a whisper caught in the wind. Shocking, I know.”
Angel Challenges Public Morality Standards
The 2021 BBNaija ‘Shine Ya Eye’ finalist criticized Nigerians for projecting their personal beliefs onto others:
“Just because you think something is bad doesn’t mean the other person shares the same beliefs as you.”
She emphasized that the public doesn’t have control over her identity or choices:
“I let my friends post [the video] because, guess what? It’s probably shocking, but can you imagine? This is my life.”
Past Relationship With BBNaija’s Soma
Angel was previously in a relationship with fellow BBNaija All Stars contestant Soma. The couple’s romance blossomed during the 2023 edition of the show and continued after it ended.
However, Angel confirmed their breakup in November 2024, telling fans via social media that she was single again.
