Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded sharply to Nollywood actress Sarah Martins after she made remarks suggesting that his supposed new restaurant should have been named in honor of his wife, Chioma Rowland.
Sarah took to Instagram on Monday, claiming that the culinary venture, which she assumed was a restaurant, would have had a greater impact if it bore Chioma’s name, given her well-known passion for cooking.
“I honestly feel Davido’s restaurant should have been opened for Chioma or probably in her name… 5ive Star Restaurant by Chef Chi would have made more sense,” she wrote.
She emphasized that her comments were not made out of malice but admiration, adding:
“This is coming from a place of LOVE because I am a huge fan of OBO… even satan loves Chioma.”
However, Davido, 31, didn’t mince words in his response. Taking to the comment section of Sarah’s post, he clarified that no restaurant had been launched and that the campaign was a promotional partnership with @foodcourt_app for his newly released album titled “5”.
“U no get sense… No restaurant was opened. That was a promotional campaign with @foodcourt_app for my album 5️⃣… now take my wife’s picture off page,” he wrote.
Davido’s Strong Defense of Chioma
The singer’s protective stance toward his wife, Chioma, quickly stirred reactions online, with fans divided between defending Sarah’s intent and applauding Davido’s directness.
Sarah, who has previously shown public support for the singer and his marriage, is yet to respond to his comment.
Notably, she had defended Davido during his traditional wedding in June 2024, mocking controversial journalist Kemi Olunloyo over her criticism of the couple.
Promotional Campaign, Not a Restaurant
Davido’s clarification shuts down swirling rumors that he had launched a restaurant. Instead, the buzz was tied to a food-themed marketing campaign promoting his “5” album, in collaboration with FoodCourt, a popular food delivery platform.
As fans await more details from both Davido and Sarah Martins, one thing is clear — Davido is not entertaining unsolicited branding advice when it comes to his wife.
