Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has revealed that he believes he can continue playing professional football until the age of 39 or 40, while also confirming that he was close to a move to the Saudi Pro League before extending his contract at Anfield.

The 32-year-old forward enjoyed a sensational season, scoring 29 goals and registering 18 assists, helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title.

In an interview with Egyptian television channel ON Sports, Salah opened up about his future, longevity, and the lucrative offer he turned down from Saudi Arabia.

“I will stop playing when I have that feeling,” Salah said. “If you ask me for my opinion, I think I can play until the age of 39 or 40, but if I felt before that I wanted to stop, I would quit. I have achieved a lot of things.”

Salah also confirmed ongoing interest from clubs in the Middle East and addressed the speculation that surrounded his future throughout the season.

“My contract was up at Liverpool and I would have gone to Saudi, but we finalised the deal with Liverpool,” he added.

Sources told BBC Sport that Salah had been in line to earn at least £500 million if he had opted to move to the Saudi Pro League. However, he ultimately chose to sign a new deal with Liverpool last month, ending months of uncertainty.

The interview aired just hours before a tragic incident occurred at Liverpool’s trophy parade, where a car ploughed into celebrating supporters, injuring several people.

Despite the off-pitch drama, Salah’s comments have sparked fresh discussion about his long-term future — both at Liverpool and possibly, in the Saudi Pro League.
