Award-winning Nigerian singer Davido has sparked online conversation after revealing that artists can earn as much as $400,000 for performing at naming ceremonies.
Speaking during a recent interview on the show Tap In With TT, the ‘Unavailable’ crooner highlighted how lucrative private event bookings can be in Nigeria and beyond.
“You can get booked for a naming ceremony — $400K,” Davido said. “It’s just like in India. They celebrate everything — weddings, birthdays — and if you’ve got money, the main thing is to invite a big artist.”
His comments, which quickly went viral, sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with some fans expressing disbelief at the staggering figure. In contrast, others pointed to the lavish culture of elite events in Nigeria as justification.
While Davido didn’t confirm whether he had personally received such a sum, the statement has reignited discussions about the extravagant nature of celebrity appearances at private ceremonies in Africa’s entertainment scene.
