Former Jigawa State Governor and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has issued a stern warning to the party leadership, declaring that he will no longer attend any PDP meetings until key figures like Nyesom Wike and Samuel Ortom are expelled for allegedly working against the party in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with journalists, Lamido — a member of both the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) — expressed deep dissatisfaction with what he described as the party’s lack of discipline and accountability.
“During our time, the party was supreme. It held full authority, and everyone respected it… Anyone — no matter how influential — who crossed the party line would be sanctioned,” Lamido said.
Citing historical precedence, Lamido recalled how, as the National Secretary of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), he led the expulsion of the late Arthur Nzeribe for anti-party activities.
He argued that Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Ortom, the former Benue State Governor, both worked against the PDP during the 2023 elections and should no longer be part of the party’s leadership organs.
“Someone like Wike, who claims to love the PDP but is clearly undermining it, should be expelled by the NWC. Why hasn’t that happened? Look at Ortom, who publicly declared support for Peter Obi — and yet remains on the BoT,” he queried.
Lamido declared his loyalty to the PDP but emphasized he would not participate in any party affairs until decisive disciplinary actions are taken.
“I remain a PDP member, but I will not participate in party functions or answer calls to meetings while these individuals remain in leadership. How can I sit with Ortom in the BoT to discuss the future of PDP?”
The former governor described Wike as an ingrate, accusing him of trying to destroy the very platform that brought him to political relevance.
“Wike is, quite frankly, a disaster. What he has done is un-African and un-Nigerian. To seal the PDP secretariat — a party that produced and nurtured you — is like destroying your own home,” he lamented.
Lamido also dismissed Wike’s claims of financially supporting the PDP, likening it to a son providing for his mother — not a justification for control or dominance.
He praised President Bola Tinubu for reportedly ordering the reopening of the PDP national secretariat after Wike’s alleged attempts to shut it down.
“Tinubu has exposed him — showing that Wike is unreliable, without tradition, without pedigree. And now, Tinubu too may likely abandon him very soon,” he concluded.
