President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Kabo, in Kano State into a university.
The institution will now be known as the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, becoming the third federal university in the state, alongside Bayero University and Yusuf Maitama Sule University.
The announcement was made during a Senate plenary, where Tinubu’s letters regarding the establishment of new universities in Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo were presented.
Meanwhile, the Senate has passed two bills to establish additional federal universities. The first converts the Federal Science and Technical College in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, into the Federal University of Information Technology.
This new institution aims to provide digital education in cybersecurity, programming, and related fields.
The second bill aims to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Gombe to a Federal University of Education (Technical), with a focus on teacher training and modern educational practices. Senators Jide Ipinsagba and Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo sponsored both bills.
