Nigerian social critic, VeryDarkMan, has taken a bold stand against President Bola Tinubu’s response to the recent massacre in Benue State, where over 200 people were reportedly burned alive in a herdsmen attack on the Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area.
According to CREEBHILLS, the gruesome incident — which has drawn international outrage — has prompted widespread reactions, including from Pope Leo, who was the first global figure to condemn the killings, describing it as a “terrible massacre” and demanding justice.
Following the Pope’s statement, President Tinubu issued a press release instructing the Benue State government to initiate dialogue and reconciliation with the attackers.
Reacting to this, VeryDarkMan lambasted the President’s position, arguing that such a call exposes the power and impunity of the perpetrators. “Even from President Tinubu’s press release, you will know that these herdsmen are not done yet with Benue people,” he stated.
He questioned the logic of dialoguing with people capable of such barbaric acts.
“You want to dialogue with those that are burning people alive, people with barbaric ways. This is to tell you that they are even bigger than the President. That’s just the truth. Don’t let anybody deceive you.”
The outspoken activist went further, accusing Nigeria’s top security agencies and the military of being fully aware of the ongoing atrocities in Benue.
“It will be clowning if the DG of DSS and IG of Police will tell me that they didn’t know what is going on or what has been going on in Benue,” he said.
He described the silence and normalization of such large-scale violence as deeply troubling.
“The reason why anybody is reacting now is because I had to go show the video. A lot of you are used to the news of Benue killing. You are already used to the news and that’s what scares me most.”
VeryDarkMan provided chilling details of the massacre, pointing out that the attackers came prepared with gallons of fuel and AK-47 rifles.
“Did you know how those people entered that place? They came with gallons of fuel. When they open the door, they pour the fuel and light it up. So where did all those with gallons of fuel pass through?”
In a passionate plea, he called on farmers in Benue to arm themselves legally for self-defense.
“It’s just about protest. Every farmer in Benue needs to go and get a gun with a license. It’s bigger than what the government can come and intervene at this point. Unless Benue people have what to protect themselves with, they can do nothing.”
On Sunday, VeryDarkMan physically joined protesting youths in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, further demonstrating his commitment to the cause and amplifying calls for urgent, meaningful action.
