Peter Obi Clarifies Stance on Coalition, Emphasizes Purpose-Driven Leadership

Former presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has officially declared his intention to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the Labour Party stalwart dispelled rumors that he might run as a vice-presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it,” Obi stated confidently.

Addressing widespread speculations regarding a possible joint ticket with Atiku, Obi responded:

“This is not in play. Nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C.”

Obi, who ran under the Labour Party banner in the 2023 general elections, reaffirmed his commitment to the party while also acknowledging his involvement in the recently announced ADC-led opposition coalition.

“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” he added.

His declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a high-stakes electoral showdown in 2027, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is also projected to seek a second term.

Obi’s confirmation has sparked renewed enthusiasm among his supporters, particularly the youthful “Obidient” movement that championed his 2023 campaign.
