FG Sets 16 as Minimum Admission Age for Tertiary Institutions

Headline:The Federal Government has officially announced that the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria is 16 years.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made this declaration on Tuesday while speaking at the opening of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Policy Meeting in Abuja.

He emphasized that the age requirement is “final and non-negotiable.”
According to Dr. Alausa, any admission conducted outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be considered illegal, with institutions and individuals involved facing prosecution.

He also warned that heads of institutions found guilty of manipulating the admission process or engaging in malpractice will be held accountable and prosecuted accordingly.

This policy move reinforces the government’s commitment to standardizing tertiary education admissions and curbing irregularities in the system.
