Nigerian music legend, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has called on students across the country to channel their education, knowledge, and skills into driving positive change and contributing meaningfully to national development.
Obey-Fabiyi made this appeal during the signing-out ceremony of 79 students from the sixth graduating set of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, held at the Ebenezer Obey Music and Life Skills Institute, Abeokuta Centre, on Saturday.
Addressing the graduates, the veteran musician encouraged them to let their academic achievements reflect core values such as discipline, hard work, and service to humanity. He noted that the institute was established to empower young Nigerians and to give back to society through education and moral guidance.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Lateef Mustapha, Director of the Centre for Part-Time and Professional Studies at Al-Hikmah University, described the graduation as a celebration of resilience, creativity, and lifelong learning. He emphasized that higher education should go beyond classroom lectures to include moral discipline, entrepreneurship, and community development. According to him, “True success is not measured by grades but by the positive impact you make in society.”
In his goodwill message, Professor Sabiru Adesanya, former Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, commended the institute for its role in human capacity development and urged the graduating students to remain worthy ambassadors of both the institute and the university.
Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Adekunle Durosinmi, Director of the Ebenezer Obey Music and Life Skills Institute, described the event as a major milestone in the centre’s journey toward academic excellence. He noted that the steady rise in the number of graduates reflects the confidence students have in the institute’s programs, which successfully blend moral values with practical, skill-based learning.
Durosinmi reaffirmed the management’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards and expanding opportunities for students seeking quality tertiary education and professional growth.
The 79 graduating students were drawn from the departments of Accounting, Computer Science, Business Administration, and Mass Communication — disciplines that form the foundation for Nigeria’s future innovators and leaders.
