Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has shut down speculation linking him with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League, reaffirming his commitment to the club and insisting he is “happy” at Old Trafford.
The Portugal international who is now in his sixth full season with the Red Devils, was reportedly the subject of interest from Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, with offers said to be as high as £700,000 per week during the last transfer window.
Despite the lucrative offers, Fernandes made it clear that a switch to Saudi Arabia is “an impossible scenario” for him at the moment.
Speaking ahead of Portugal’s World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday night, the 31-year-old said:
“That is an impossible scenario to imagine. I have no idea if there is any truth to it. I don’t know if I will play [for Portugal] tomorrow, much less if I will play outside of Manchester in a year. It’s not something that worries me. I’m happy where I am; otherwise, I would not have stayed.”
Fernandes’ comments come after a summer of uncertainty regarding his future, but his latest remarks appear to end speculation— at least for now — about a move away from Manchester United.
