Activist and human rights advocate Rinu Oduala has criticized the Presidency after it shared a post affirming Nigeria’s commitment to religious freedom amid global scrutiny triggered by recent remarks from former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Through its official X handle (@NGRPresident), the Presidency quoted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as saying that “Nigeria stands firmly as a democracy governed by constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.”
The post further stated that since 2023, the Tinubu administration has maintained active engagement with both Christianand Muslim leaders to address security challenges affecting citizens across faiths and regions.
However, Rinu Oduala mocked the administration’s communication approach, posting:
“A government by graphic design, for graphic design, with graphic design.”
Her comment, which quickly went viral, appeared to mock the Presidency’s frequent use of infographics and designed graphics in its official communications.
The post — tagged under the #RenewedHopeAgenda — comes amid growing international focus on Nigeria’s human rights and religious freedom record.
The Presidency’s statement followed widespread global reactions to Trump’s threat of U.S. military intervention over alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria, a claim the Tinubu government has strongly rejected, insisting the country remains a multi-faith democracy anchored on constitutional protection of freedom of religion.
