Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has warned that he is prepared to confront any American soldiers deployed to Nigeria, telling supporters in a live Facebook session that foreign troops would not be welcomed.
Speaking on the livestream, Asari said Nigeria would demonstrate whether it has the means to oppose a U.S. military presence. He warned that, should U.S. forces enter the country to “protect Christians” at the behest of President Donald Trump, they would “die in Nigeria and be buried on Nigerian soil,” he added — a threat that underscores how fraught the rhetoric around possible foreign intervention has become.
Asari also challenged the narrative that only Christians have been targeted in the recent wave of violence, saying that more Muslims have been killed than Christians since the attacks began.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions after public calls from U.S. officials about possible action related to attacks on religious communities in Nigeria. Observers say such statements — and the strongly worded reactions they provoke — risk inflaming an already volatile security and diplomatic situation.
