Popular Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe, better known as Waje, has finally addressed long-standing rumours suggesting she once dated rapper M.I Abaga.
The speculation began after the duo collaborated on several romantic-themed songs in the 2010s, including their hit single “One Naira.”
Speaking on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old songstress clarified that their relationship was purely professional.
“Because of the rollout and romantic theme of my collaborative song with M.I, One Naira, a lot of people speculated that we were dating. But we never dated. We were just friends who saw how great a love story in a song could be, so we created characters that would help drive the song,” Waje explained.
She further revealed that the female voice featured in the intro of One Naira was not hers but that of M.I’s then-girlfriend.
Waje also spoke about her current relationship status, stating that she is single but unwilling to settle for less.
“I’m single, but I won’t entertain an unsuccessful man. I’m not in my 20s anymore, so I don’t have the time to build with any man,” she added.
The award-winning vocalist remains one of Nigeria’s most respected music talents, known for her soulful voice and powerful performances.
