Reno Omokri Accuses Peter Obi of Political Desperation

Former presidential aide and ambassador-designate, Reno Omokri, has accused Peter Obi, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), of being desperate to become Nigeria’s president “at all costs.”

Omokri made the allegation in a post on X, claiming that Obi has been exploiting recent fire outbreaks across the country to criticise the Federal Government, while allegedly remaining silent on similar tragedies in the South-East.

According to Reno Omokri, Obi frequently comments on fire incidents outside the Igbo-speaking region but failed to publicly react to two major fire disasters in Anambra State. These include a January 1 fire at Trano Rentals Hotel in Isuaniocha, Awka North, and another incident during a Christmas carnival in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area, on December 30, 2025, which reportedly claimed several lives.

Omokri contrasted this with Obi’s reactions to fire outbreaks in states such as Lagos, Kano, Niger, Plateau, Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto, describing the pattern as selective and politically motivated.

He further accused Obi of promoting ethnic and regional divisions, arguing that many of the fire incidents were caused by environmental factors rather than government failures. Reno Omokri described Obi as a “tribal irredentist,” claiming that his ambition for political power has affected his ability to express sympathy without assigning blame.

Omokri also criticised Obi’s reference to an alleged “surge” in fire incidents, saying it was an attempt to score political points rather than offer compassion to victims.

“Peter Obi blaming a ‘surge’ of fire incidents on the government is a sad display of tribalism, sectionalism, desperation and ignorance,” Omokri wrote, adding that Obi chose to blame the government for incidents he said were largely driven by environmental conditions.
