Nigeria have secured a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)in Morocco following an impressive 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday night.
The Super Eagles delivered a dominant performance against the Desert Foxes in the quarter-final encounter, controlling large spells of the first half but struggling to convert their chances. Calvin Bassey came closest to opening the scoring before the break, only for his effort to be dramatically cleared off the line.
The breakthrough eventually came in the second half when Victor Osimhen rose to head home a cross from Bruno Onyemaechi. Osimhen then turned provider, setting up Akor Adams to seal the win with Nigeria’s second goal.
With the victory, the three-time African champions advance to the semi-finals, where they will face tournament hosts Morocco for a place in the final.
