Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has appealed to residents of the state to remain calm amid ongoing moves by the State House of Assembly to impeach him.

The governor made the call on Sunday while speaking during a church service in Port Harcourt to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. He assured worshippers that the political situation would be resolved and urged the public not to panic.

Fubara explained that his silence in the face of recent developments was deliberate, noting that his confidence and strength are anchored in his faith in God. He referenced a statement he made at the New Year banquet held at the Government House, remarking that “dogs bark when they do not understand,” a comment widely interpreted as a response to his critics.

Also speaking at the service, the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu, called on residents to act responsibly during the tense period. She echoed the message of the Dean of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Blessing Eyinda, who had stressed in his sermon that every action would one day be remembered.

Professor Odu further appealed to the people to continue praying for the state administration, describing their prayers as a crucial source of strength for the government as it navigates the current challenges.
