Captains in the Premier League will no longer be required to wear rainbow-themed captain’s armbands or pride-themed warm-up tops from the 2025/26 season, following discussions among club captains.
The decision was reached during a call involving Premier League captains ahead of the new campaign. According to those discussions, captains agreed that they would no longer be asked to participate in mandatory LGBTQ-themed armband or warm-up initiatives.
Sources indicate that while some players wished to continue supporting the campaign, others were uncomfortable with the requirement, leading to a consensus to remove the obligation rather than maintain a divisive mandate.
The change signals a shift toward voluntary participation rather than compulsory displays, with clubs and players expected to retain the freedom to support causes of their choosing without league-level requirements.
As of now, the Premier League has not issued a separate formal statement detailing alternative inclusion measures or how clubs may opt in independently.
