Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has parted ways with South African club Chippa United, ending a four-year stint with the side.

The club confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that Nwabali formally requested to leave despite signing a three-year contract extension in 2024. After deliberation, Chippa United said it agreed to grant his release.

“Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release,” the statement read.

The club also paid tribute to the goalkeeper’s contribution, praising his professionalism and commitment during his time at the club.

Reacting to the announcement, Nwabali shared an emotional farewell message on Instagram, describing Chippa United as more than a club and thanking his teammates, coaches, fans and the club’s leadership for their support.

“It was more than a family,” he wrote, reflecting on the memories, challenges and lessons he experienced during his stay. He also expressed special appreciation to the club chairman, whom he described as a father figure, and wished the team success in the coming seasons.

Nwabali, 29, joined Chippa United from Katsina United in 2022 and went on to make around 70 appearances for the South African side. His next destination has not yet been announced.
