Former U.S. President Barack Obama has addressed persistent speculation about extraterrestrials, brushing aside claims that aliens are being concealed at the secretive Area 51 military base.
In an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama responded lightheartedly when asked whether aliens exist. “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them,” he joked, before dismissing the idea that extraterrestrials are being housed at Area 51. He added that no hidden underground facility exists—unless, he quipped, there is an enormous conspiracy that kept even the president in the dark.
Area 51, officially known as Groom Lake, is a classified U.S. Air Force installation in Nevada that has operated since 1955. Although long the subject of rumors, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) did not publicly acknowledge its existence until 2013. The secrecy surrounding the base has fueled decades of theories linking it to alien technology and extraterrestrial research.
In 1995, then-President Bill Clinton signed an order exempting the site from certain environmental disclosure laws on national security grounds, a move that further intensified public curiosity.
Other U.S. leaders have also commented on the topic. In 2019, former President Donald Trump told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that while some pilots reported unusual sightings, he personally was skeptical, though he conceded that “anything is possible.”
Interest in unidentified aerial sightings has increased in recent years, particularly after the U.S. government released an unclassified report on what it terms Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). The document reviewed more than 100 incidents observed by military and government personnel, acknowledging that some cases remain unexplained.
Despite ongoing public fascination, U.S. authorities have not produced official evidence confirming the existence of extraterrestrial life or secret alien facilities.
