Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has suggested that the club could still mount a late challenge for the Premier League title, despite trailing the league leaders.
United came from behind to secure a 2–1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday, a result that moved them into third place on the table behind Arsenal and Manchester City.
The Red Devils are currently 13 points adrift of first place and will face Newcastle United in their next fixture.
Despite overseeing an impressive run of six wins and one draw, Carrick admitted that his side must remain grounded about their chances.
“You cannot rule anything out in football, but we have to be realistic,” Carrick said.
“Above us now there are two fantastic teams.
“Of course, I’m being realistic about it. We have to win a lot of football matches for that to happen.”
United’s recent form has boosted optimism among supporters, but the manager acknowledged that closing the gap at the top will require consistency and near-perfect results in the remaining fixtures.
